This year, the Cinco Amigos, (organizers of the highly successful Concours du Soleil) expanded the fundraising activities to include a unique crowd-funding opportunity for community leaders, businesses and philanthropists who recognize the need for technology education targeted specifically to students in grades 6 – 12.
Microsoft recently announced they are initiating a digital literacy program, “YouthSparks” that will be housed within Innovate ABQ. This program has been highly successful in other communities in the training and development of underserved populations and especially young ladies who are under-represented in this growing career field. Participants experience hands-on computer and technology workshops that will lead to opportunities for careers in technology. The first highly success workshop took place in August, 2014 in temporary space. It was a super success.
The Cinco Amigos have already committed to purchasing 50 Windows Surface computers. Now, they seek to raise funds to outfit the computer lab within the Innovate ABQ space.
