Affiliated with the University of New Mexico's Anderson School of Management since 2015. the Parker Center for Family Business. co-founded by Linda and James Parker. was the outgrowth of the New Mexico Family Business Alliance that originated in 2005. The James M. Parker Endowment benefits the Parker Center. honoring Jim's tireless advocacy and support of family businesses in New Mexico.
An attorney with Mod rail Sperling Law Firm. Jim had more than 50 years of experience in federal taxation. estate planning. employee benefits. and business law. His passion was helping businesses navigate the issues unique to working with family members. Jim was especially interested in how families could successfully pass family-owned businesses peaceably from one generation to the next. having seen his grandfather and father operate a family lumberyard chain that suffered greatly from the lack of a succession plan.
''Jim was incredibly ethical and won awards around the country for his expertise and leadership in the community and his profession," said Linda. a Trustee with the Foundation. She owns a family business with their son. Tyson. and a second company with daughter-in-law. Krista.
''A belief in philanthropy is often passed down through generations. This endowment is another way to continue our family's involvement in the community and satisfy Jim's one remaining goal for the Parker Center for Family Business. To ensure it continued," Linda adds.
