Given the popularity of Walter White and the Breaking Bad series, a funeral was held on October 19th, 2013 to bid farewell to Walter White. Funeral proceeds benefited the Vernon's Steakhouse Walter White Endowment Fund for Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless. Services took place at Sunset Memorial Park near downtown Albuquerque. Breaking Bad set decorator Michael Flowers delivered the eulogy with fans, actors and event organizers adding other stories about what Breaking Bad meant to them and Albuquerque. The Walter White funeral reception was held at Vernon’s Steakhouse where fans celebrated the fundraising event. News of the event went viral, the name of the endowment fund mentioned everywhere from Fox and CNN to Access Hollywood and Rolling Stone. Some news on the location of the funeral was negative, however this was quickly extinguished when the headstone was relocated to the Village Shops at Los Ranchos creating the best outcome for all involved.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff Department is quoted as saying the event had a powerful impact on raising awareness of drug addiction in our city and the funds will help immediately for those being served by Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless. Thank you to everyone who donated to the fund and if you are interested in helping this cause, donate here.
